Edith's Top 6 Books - September

I thought that I would share with you some of Edith's favourite books. I'm hoping to make this a monthly feature. She's really taken an interest in books recently so I'm embracing it and refreshing her collection. We've got a good selection of books. I picked a lot up from charity shops and carboot sales. She owns a lot of the classics but recently I've been put to get her some touch and feel books she really loves them. It only takes her one read through to know exactly what she's doing and she loves to turn the pages herself. Sometimes a little bit too soon!

That's Not My Mermaid - Fiona Watt  (Author), Rachel Wells (Illustrator)

I'm pretty sure there is a "That's not my ..." book for everything. I picked this up from our local carboot but it's available on Amazon and other good book shops too. Edith instantly loved the book. Each page, including the front cover has a touch and feel object. The book is well made too. Which is perfect for a baby that likes to destroy things. The touch and feel objects are well secured to the pages so you don't need to worry about them coming off or being pulled apart.

Deep Blue Sea Fidgety Fingers - Oakly Graham (Author)

Another carboot buy and oh my this my favourite. My husband picked this up as he knew the lady on the stall. I thought to begin with he had just bought it out of politeness. Oh no. It's so good. You put your fingers through the hole on each page. One finger for a swordfish, two for a dolphins beak and then all of your fingers for the jiggly jellyfish. It's great fun. I had never heard of this book so I don't think it's a popular one but if your baby has a good sense of humour then this is a must. Edith laughs so much as this book and then try's to put her fingers in the holes. We've just discovered that there are more books in this series. We need them all!

This Rabbit. That Rabbit. - Jane Porter

This book came in the BookStart pack we got given at Edith 9-12 month review. She loves this book. She likes if you read it really quickly or in funny voices. The book is full of rabbits. Well duh! Dressed up or doing something. It's great for rhyming and great at this age as Edith has a short attention span when it comes to books at the moment. They have to be punchy and grip her in.

Baby's Day - Little Tiger Press

This book also came in the same pack. It in rhyme again, and describes what the baby got up too. It's your typical baby book. The first page has a picture of a baby yawning and even thinking about it now makes me yawn so beware if you choose this book. It's one of those books that you will know off by heart after a couple of reads which is great as you can "read" it when your out or told keep your baby occupied.

Each Peach Pear Plum -  Allan Ahlberg (Author, Illustrator), Janet Ahlberg  (Author, Illustrator)

This book is a classic. I picked our copy up in a charity shop when I was pregnant with Edith. My Mum loves this book and we had to have it. I'm sure you know the story. All in rhyme and each page leads on to whats going on in the next. Edith loves to pick up and point your finger at the characters. It's so cute.

I Like It When - Mary Murphy

This book was from a charity shop but not for Edith. My husband bought this for his little boy before we were even together. He love reading the book and now his sister does too. Her highlights are "I like it when ... we play peekaboo" we then shout boo to make her jump,  that always results in a giggle. She also likes "I like it when ... you tickle me." We then of course tickle her. She loves an action book that we can play along too. It's great fun.
