Before I even start this post I'm going to make this clear now. You will need gloves. Holly is a prickly bugger and you will curse it without gloves, trust me on this one. This is another attempt in my handmade Christmas. I'm trying to make as much as I can and leave as much as the shop bought tat in the shop. It's going pretty well and other than ribbon and candy canes I've not bought that much. Although this could change, I'm going shopping next weekend and it could be quite tempting. We are not only going shopping but I've also booked in my first wedding dress appointment. It's crazy to think that there is 14 months (and 13 days) until the big day and I can't wait to really start planning after Christmas. Although I did buy a garland from The Range yesterday. I couldn't resist.
I made this wreath at the weekend. It was relatively easy to make as I had some good cuts of holly (courtesy of Mum's garden, thanks mum!), I tried making another wreath with the leftover cuts but it didn't work as well so long and flexible cuts of holly are key! I do love how rustic this looks with just the holly and ribbon but you could always add pine cones or other decorations.
You will need:
Gloves
Holly, long lengths
String
Ribbon
Scissors
First put on some heavy duty gloves. I bought rigger gloves from poundland and they worked a treat.
Take two pieces of holly and tie together with string. You will need to secure it in a couple of places to make sure it stays put.
Keep adding pieces of holly until the continuous piece is at your desirable length. Securing each with string.
Carefully bend the holly into a circle. This may take a while but keep bending it round. Secure in place with more string.
Once secured take your chosen colour ribbon and tie it over the string. I opted for simple knots but you could tie in bows.
Choose a top and add a long piece of ribbon through the middle and tie together to make a hanging loop.
And that's it. As simple as that.
