There's nothing worse than when you plan a day out and you wake up that morning to rain. That happened to us last Thursday. We'd been planning a trip to the Hundred River Maize Maze since the start of summer and Thursday was the day that suited us all. We waited a couple of hours before making a decision and even gave the place a ring to check that they would still be open with the drizzle and grey weather. They were and we decided that we would pack rain coats, wear sensible shoes and brave it! And we are so glad we did!

The maze itself is shaped as a bee and you have to navigate your way round to find all the stamps and clues along the way. I don't want to boast but we didn't get lost once, thanks to the Mr (to be) and his  bee shaped map reading skills. It was a little worrying being heavily pregnant and I had visions of going into labour right in the middle! The grounds and maize are so beautiful and against the grey skies it made for some lovely photographs.

There's a lot more than the maze too. There's a play area, that my both of my nephews loved, bubble making and a small farmyard area where the Mr (to be) made friends with some goats, which resulted in a goat selfie and each day there is a different activity. Thursday's are a visit from Fritton Owl Sanctuary. I'm not going to lie I'm not a massive fan of birds but when they are as beautiful as Shadow I quickly got over my fears and even stroked it's beautiful feathered back.

There's a little tent as you walk into the place which sells local homemade ice creams made from the dairy farm and hot dogs and burgers too. We packed a picnic so didn't sample any of the food but it smelt and looked delicious.

It was such a great day out and we all had fun, the grey weather didn't spoil the day at all. It wasn't expensive to get in and worth every single penny. If you are ever in Suffolk and stuck for something to do up until the end of the month, then I whole heartily recommend Hundred River Maize Maze!

  1. I love the shot of the corn peeping out of its jacket! ^_^
That would have been one heck of a birth story if it had happened in the middle of the maize :P Thankgod it didn't though!
A Maize Maze sounds like fun! I'll have to see if we have something similar near by ^_^
