Half a year. We'll soon have to think about planning birthday parties. How can Edith be 6 month's already? 6 months marks a lot of milestones. It is amazing how quickly Edith has grown this month, she seems to have developed her cheeky personality even more and she has been a real joy. Most of the time.

Sleep
Sleep has been up and down again this month. On average I would say she wakes up 2-3 times a night but I have had quite a few nights where I've seen every hour. Edith is definitely teething and it's really messing with her sleep. Although Thursday night she took a while to go down but when she finally did at 11:50pm she slept until 5:30am which is the longest stretch she has done in a good while. Her new time to wake in the morning is 5:30am. We have a blackout blind so I don't think it's the sunlight that is causing it. She wakes her Daddy up by tapping him on the shoulder, stroking his face or beard. He then takes her down so I can catch up with a couple hours of sleep.

Edith is still fighting naps in the daytime. If we are out and there's too much going on she will fight sleep until the last minute. She has got really good at falling asleep in the pushchair now which is great as it saves me time rocking her off.

Feeding
Edith loves food so much. Everyday she has a couple of ice cubes of puree (defrosted of course). She's really enjoying it and we are going to increase the amount she has. Recently we have been giving her carrot crisps which she can feed herself and we've just started to introduce breakfast. I now feel that we are at the point where we can try a more baby lead weaning approach ( I've got a blog post coming up about this as there are some aspects I like and others not so much). Until the last week or so Edith didn't quite understand how feeding herself worked. Some foods she couldn't grip properly and the co-ordination of getting her hand to her mouth whilst holding the food didn't work. The real turning point for us was introducing these carrot crisps but I'll talk more about that in the weaning post I've got planned.

As for breastfeeding, we are still going strong. I'm so happy that we've made it to the 6 month stage. This is a goal that I wanted to reach and I'm so glad we have. It's a real team effort, my body just seems to be good at it and Edith is a dream. She loves the booby! Her feeds are starting to cut back a little now food has been introduced, with more time between feeds. Edith still wakes to feed in the night and feeding is still a big comfort to her. I would say that most of the time she will feed every 2 hours. However she's only on for a few minutes at a time. She is very much a grazer when it comes to feeding, eating little and often.

Size
We've not had Edith weighed since her 5 Month Update where she weighed 20lb 2oz. I have however stood on the scales with her and I think she's now around 22lb. She is still a chunk and growing and developing nicely. We've gone into 6-9 clothing already and to be honest I don't think some pieces, especially her sleepsuits, will last much longer. This girl is so long! Edith is still in size 4 nappies. I've started buying for her next lot of clothes and even a few pieces beyond. Shopping for baby clothes is addictive!

Milestones

Bye bye co-sleeper. Edith is now in her big cot. (Sob)

Playing games. Dropping things on purpose and playing boo, especially with Nanny.

Starting to blow raspberries.

Her first tooth has cut through. (And don't we know it)

Using a walker, her bouncy chair is just too small now.

Banging her hand on the highchair when Daddy isn't giving her food quickly enough.

Sitting up unaided for a couple of minutes.

Sticking her tongue out.

Grabbing her toes.

Things Edith Loves

Cuddles, She has been very cuddly and a touch clingy recently.

Bathtime. We are well and truly over the stage of screaming every bath time.

The boat bath toys.

Peter the toy polar bear.

Waking Daddy up.

Laughing hysterically.

 Songs.

Stick with Mick (Mama's who watch BabyTV will understand)

Seeing her Mama in the morning.

Things Edith Hates

Having her nose wiped.

Other babies crying.

The snot sucker (can you tell it's been a month full of colds?)

Happy half a year baby girl!

  1. Wow, she's growing and developing so quickly! I can relate to so much of this. My son has just finished a spell of getting good up around 5/5.30 every day and has managed until at least 6am every day for the last week - yay! I'm looking forward to your BMW post as we've struggled with that. The only thing he seems to feed himself is Organix finger food at lunch time, including those carrot crisps. The rest of the time he is spoon fed and yes nearly ten months old, so I've been a bit anxious about it but I think that's just about comparing myself to others...
